You can use a variety of baits including minnows, pinfish and crabs. If the Tarpon is hungry you could put almost anything it in front of that huge mouth, he’s going to eat it. The flush occurs during the New and Full moons in May and June and there is usually a strong outgoing tide during the late afternoon. If you are lucky, not only could you catch an incredible tarpon but you may to one of the beautiful sunsets, a great experience and time to whip the camera out that many who are fishing for tarpon seek. Fishing for tarpon is one of the most prized sport fish in Tampa Bay so take good care of them. Try to revive the fish for as long as you can, keeping it in the water at all times, please don’t put it on the deck of your boat or hold it out of the water.
